Estuarine Research
Overview
Estuaries, and their tidal creeks, are the interface between the coastal landscape and the coastal ocean. They are dynamic environments that are renowned for their ecological complexity, biological productivity and seafood production. Because most of the US population lives in watersheds that drain into estuaries, they are the repository for large amounts of the pollution released into the coastal environment. Estuaries also provide critical nursery habitat for many valued and economically important species.
